A Celebration of Love: Capturing Bart and Arlene's 50th Wedding Anniversary at the American Hotel, Freehold, NJ

May 20th, 2023

Photographing Bart and Arlene’s 50th wedding anniversary at the American Hotel in Freehold, NJ was one of those rare experiences that stays with you long after you put the camera down. From the moment I stepped into the room, I could feel the weight of five decades of love, laughter, and life lived side by side — and I felt genuinely honored that they trusted me to capture it.

I’ve photographed many beautiful moments over the years, but this one felt especially meaningful. As I walked through the American Hotel, with its classic elegance and timeless charm, I couldn’t help imagining what Bart and Arlene’s life together must have looked like over the last 50 years. The décor, the warm lighting, the carefully arranged details — everything in the room seemed to echo their story of resilience, partnership, and enduring love.

Before the event, I sat with Bart and Arlene to learn about what mattered most to them. Those conversations stayed with me throughout the night. Hearing them talk about their family, the memories they’ve built, and the moments they wanted preserved made me feel not just like a photographer, but like a small part of their legacy. It reminded me why I love what I do.

As I photographed their family, I could feel the joy radiating from everyone in the room. There were subtle moments — a daughter fixing her mother’s necklace, a grandchild squeezing a grandparent’s hand — that spoke volumes on their own. These are the kinds of moments I’m always searching for, the ones that say more than a posed picture ever could.

But nothing touched me more than the way Bart and Arlene looked at each other. After 50 years, their connection felt effortless and genuine — the kind of love that doesn’t need grand gestures to be seen. Every time they leaned in for a quiet word or shared a soft smile, it was clear that their bond had only grown stronger through the years. Capturing those moments felt like photographing something truly sacred.

When I delivered their final gallery — filled with professionally edited golden anniversary photos — I wanted them to feel the same warmth I felt while photographing their day. The images, accessible in a private online gallery, are more than pictures; they are a visual story of a love that has stood the test of time.

For me, this wasn’t just another assignment. It was a reminder of why I’m passionate about photography: to honor the relationships we hold dear, to preserve moments that families can treasure forever, and to capture love in all its forms. Bart and Arlene, thank you for welcoming me into such a special moment in your lives. Photographing your golden anniversary is something I will always remember.
